FAQ
Q. What is a GPS?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) tells you where you are on Earth.
Its eleven o'clock ... do you know where your kids are? Would you like to? One way to track them would be to have a GPS receiver installed in the car! The GPS, or Global Positioning System, is one of the hottest technologies around, and no wonder.
GPS answers six questions simultaneously:
1. "Where am I?"
2. "Where am I going?"
3. "Where are you?"
4. "Where are you going?"
5. "What's the best way to get there?
6. "When will I get there?"
GPS is the only system today that can show your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any weather, no matter where you are!
The GPS is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.
Q. What is GPRS?
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a wireless data transfer technology over GSM networks (mobile phone network). It transfers data in packets and allows devices to be continuously connected to the Internet. TechnoTrack GPS Vehicle, Asset &Personal Tracking uses GPRS to send data from the vehicles to TechnoTrack Data Centre.
Q. How does TechnoTrack GPS Tracking System work?
It is simple. In employing a tracking system, users install a tracking device called a Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU) into their vehicles. This VTU includes a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver and a GSM/GPRS modem. GPS satellites circle the earth twice a day in a very precise orbit and transmit signal information to earth. TechnoTrack GPS receivers take this information , this information is transmitted back to internet servers maintained by TechnoTrack and use triangulation to calculate the user's exact location. Essentially, the TechnoTrack GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the TechnoTrack GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user's position and display it on the unit's electronic map and allowing you to track and monitor your field workforce and assets online and in real-time.
A TechnoTrack GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position (latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can determine the user's 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user's position has been determined, the TechnoTrack GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.
Q. Do I need any special hardware or software to track vehicle and asset?
No special hardware is needed to access the tracking data. You only need an internet enabled PC or Cell Phone, to logon to the TechnoTrack web-site using your unique username and password
Q. Can I track my vehicles and assets from anywhere anytime?
Yes, You can track your vehicle and assets from anywhere anytime. Only All you need is an internet enabled PC or Cell phone, to logon to the TechnoTrack web-site using your unique username and password.
Q. Can my fleet and assets be tracked anywhere anytime in Africa?
Yes. TechnoTrack tracking solutions work over the GPRS network, and your vehicles can be tracked all over Africa using the wide spread GSM/GPRS network.
Q. What do I do if I want to track vehicles and assets outside East Africa?
You can easily track vehicles traveling outside East Africa .
Q. What happens if my vehicles moves to an area with no GSM/GPRS coverage?
The TechnoTrack intelligent vehicle tracking unit will store data in it's internal memory, and once the vehicle moves to an area with GSM/GPRS coverage, then the stored data will automatically be transmitted to the TechnoTrack servers.
Q. How accurately does TechnoTrack track vehicles?
Typically within 10-15 meters
Q. Can I get different alert like over speed, Non journey, Idle time, AC On/Off
You can set different alerts to notify you.
Q. Will the vehicle device run down the battery of the vehicle?
No, it will not. The TechnoTrack vehicle device consumes very little power and goes into sleep mode when the vehicle's ignition is switched off. It also has its own built-in battery backup .The back up lasts for 24 hours
Q. Does GPS work under covered areas (e.g., tunnels, parking garages)?
No. GPS utilizes satellites for accurate tracking. If the sky is inaccessible to the mobile unit, tracking cannot take place.
Q. Will bad weather affect GPS?
This is highly unlikely. The sky must be blocked by an object for GPS to be affected.
Q. For how long is the tracking data stored on JusTrack web-site?
We will typically retain tracking data for a period of one year for each device.
Q. How long does it take to install?
Installing the TechnoTrack vehicle tracking system is much like installing a car stereo and will take about the same amount of time, depending upon the make and model of the vehicle.
